City Provisions is a company that caters to people who want only the best organic, locally sourced food. Offering wedding and events catering, as well as monthly supper club/farm dinners, it is operated by an old friend of mine, Cleetus Friedman. I met Cleetus maybe 10 years ago in an improv class at Improv Olympic (now iO). I’ve always remembered him as a guy who’s really passionate about performing and hip-hop music. Now, some 10 years later, he is every bit as passionate about food!
At iO, Friedman was a hard worker and completely committed to everything he did and believed in as a performer. After taking a brief tour of his new, highly anticipated local deli at 1818 W. Wilson Ave., I can see nothing has changed: His commitment really shines through.
Yes, City Provisions now operates a sustainable deli/butcher/bakery, and it opens to the public on Friday, September 3! They’ll be serving up delicious sandwiches and pre-packed meals (perfect for say, trips to Ravinia) using ingredients from local farms right here in Illinois. Friedman even uses his own beehives to produce honey. In fact, nothing is unnatural about the place?from the food to the space itself. City Provisions Deli is built from reclaimed wood and recycled products.
This is sure to become a neighborhood gem in no time.
