This year, in lieu of the traditional July 3 fireworks at the Taste of Chicago, the City of Chicago will stage three smaller scale displays along the lakefront on Sunday, July 4.

The North Side fireworks show will be viewable between Montrose Beach and Foster Avenue Beach (5200 N. Lake Shore Drive). It starts at 9 p.m., lasts 15 minutes, and will be timed with the other two displays?one at Navy Pier and the other on the South Side (from 63rd Street to Promontory Point). The patriotic soundtrack will be broadcast on 101.9-FM THE MIX.

North Side residents are advised to be aware of increased travel times throughout Independence Day weekend on all major streets that access the lakefront. The Chicago Police Department anticipates an influx of people at the lake to take in the pyrotechnics display.

“Adequate resources will be in place to monitor and maintain safety and control,” said News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
