Chicago Shakespeare Theater to Bring ‘Shrew’ to Welles Park

Shakespeare as the Bard himself intended: presented outdoors for the masses. Better yet, as Will most certainly did not intend, the show is free.

Courtesy of a grant from Boeing, the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Shakespeare Theater will mount a traveling production of The Taming of the Shrew across the city this summer, July 29 – August 19. Welles Park, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave., has been chosen as one of 11 parks to host the event.

CST is putting on a family-friendly, 75-minute version of Shrew, which will feature the same lead actors as a recent production of the play that ran at the theater’s home base on Navy Pier. The show will go on rain or shine.

Catch The Taming of the Shrew at Welles Park, Friday, Aug. 10, 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 11, 4 p.m. Find the complete schedule here.
