This weekend Dick Wolf Films, creator of the Law & Order TV franchise, will be shooting a new pilot, Chicago Fire, for NBC/Universal in Roscoe Village and Northcenter. The new firefighter drama, starring Vampire Diaries’ Taylor Kinney, will continue shooting around Chicago through April.

Chicago Film Office Director Rich Moskol is excited about the prospect of a Dick Wolf production in Chicago. “From our perspective, having a TV series with a company with such a great track record is a tremendous opportunity for us. Unlike [the blockbuster movie] Transformers 3 a TV series has a opportunity to shoot year-around for many years.”

The crews will be shooting near Hamlin Park at 3035 N. Hoyne St. and then in Northcenter at 1833 W. Byron St. on Friday and Saturday.

As soon as the shooting is completed, the show will go to editing and then for review by NBC/Universal executives. If the show gets the thumbs up, Chicago Fire could be back in Chicago for more shooting in July, says Moskol.
