Books + Bikes = Bookstore Bicycle Crawl

By Patty Wetli | Friday, July 13, 2012

Unplug this weekend and kick it old school: on two wheels, checking out books printed on actual paper.

The Bookstore Bicycle Crawl kicks off at Heritage Bicycles, 2959 N. Lincoln Ave., 1 p.m., July 15. First stop is Powell’s North, 2850 N. Lincoln Ave., where you can bask in the musky aroma of used books.

From there, it’s on to Bookworks (3444 N. Clark St.), Unabridged (3251 N. Broadway), Quimby’s (1852 W. North Ave.) and Open Books (213 W. Institute Pl.). We can’t imagine there aren’t stops scheduled for nourishment in between — that’s a lot of cardio for bookworms. Mention 50 Shades of Grey and you’ll get sent back to start.

The ride finishes up at Powell’s University Village (1218 S. Halsted St.) with the opening reception of the Bike Crawl Art Show.
