Michelle Garcia sure knows how to tease her fans. The pastry chef and co-owner of Bleeding Heart Bakery announced the new, Original Bleeding Heart Bakery would open this week at 1351 W. Belmont, just blocks from its old location. The catch: the kitchen isn’t up and running yet, though Garcia and husband Vinny are taking orders for their one-of-a-kind cakes. The curious can wander in for a look at the fantastical decor, which Garcia has been previewing on Facebook.

The Garcias added Original to the BHB brand to distinguish the Belmont shop from the BHB cafe in West Town, which is a partnership with the owners of the adjacent Roots Pizza. Having trained staff at West Town, Michelle and Vinny now plan to make the Original BHB their home base, adding a glassed-in kitchen where they’ll test recipes that will eventually make their way to BHB outposts in Oak Park and Elmhurst.

As if that weren’t enough to keep the Garcias busy, Graham Elliot just tapped BHB to supply the pastries at Grahamwich.
