Tonight the Ravenswood Artwalk and the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce are co-hosting a networking mixer with free food and cheap booze. If meeting local artists, neighborhood business owners and connecting names to faces appeals to you, then this is the place to be.
Although we tend to stray from editorializing, we gotta say that these Chamber of Commerce kinds of mixers (Lincoln Square has them too) are a good thing–and you should go. Living and working in the big city we tend to lead fairly individual lives where we tend to think of ourselves as Chicagoans. But when you begin to meet and mix with people who make a living in the same neighborhood every day, things begin to feel less like a metropolis and more like Mayberry. It’s then, after getting to know people who really have their livelihoods at stake in the community, at some point that you begin to think of yourself as a resident of Lincoln Square or Northcenter.
The mixer is tonight at O’Donovan’s, 2100 W. Irving Park Rd. from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
