In just a few months Brown Line Media will celebrate its three year anniversary. Since our launch, Center Square Journal and our sister site, Roscoe View Journal, have published over 2,700 articles about our neighborhoods and the people that live in them. It is an incredible accomplishment, considering we first launched as an experiment, not really sure if we would exist for more than a few months.
Since our launch, our site has been been lucky to be graced by 37 very talented writers and editors. They have gone on to work for Chicago Sun Times, WBBM Radio, WLS Radio, Time Out: Chicago and many other great news outlets. We have great alumni and we’re proud of them.
So, it is with heavy heart that we say goodbye today to Patty Wetli, our outgoing editor, who started as a freelancer and just got better and better every week. She’s going to a soon-to-launch news site. We won’t say who, because they plan to compete with us to some extent. But look for her on the interwebs, and then click back to CSJ and RVJ, please
In the coming weeks, Northcenter resident Ricardo Villarreal, will be picking up some of her duties. Watch for his byline soon. We’re also bringing on a team of new freelancers and inviting some familiar writers back to our pages more often. With the changes comes a new commitment to longer-form, investigative stories. We believe we know the neighborhood as well as than anyone, so telling the longer, complicated stories are our strong suit.
As you know, Center Square Journal and Roscoe View Journal are published locally, not downtown or in New York, are supported by local readers and local advertising (click on those ad on the right, please) and are committed to remaining your best source for excellent neighborhood news. We are your hometown news publication: We plan to keep up our high standards and to keep getting better.
