Angel Food Celebrates Anniversary With Contests for Kids, Adults

Angel Food's anniversary celebration includes a coloring contest for kids.

“I’m surprised I’m still here,” says Stephanie Samuels, owner of Angel Food Bakery, 1636 W. Montrose Ave.

Not only is Angel Food still standing, but Samuels is celebrating the shop’s seventh anniversary with a pair of contests aimed at rewarding her loyal customers, both adults and children.

For the grown-ups, Samuels is posting trivia questions all this week to the bakery’s Facebook and Twitter pages. The first person to answer correctly wins a free pastry. No need to brush up on obscure European rivers or the periodic table of elements: questions are all related to Angel Food. Center Square’s recent profile of Samuels may provide a few clues.

While it might seem like more fun to participate in Angel Food’s coloring contest, the competition is strictly for the 12-and-under set. Youngsters can choose one of three coloring sheets, go to town with the crayons or markers and drop their masterpiece off at Angel Food in person or scan and email (if choosing the email option, be sure to include the child’s name, age and contact info). First prize is a gift certificate for a six-inch birthday cake; second prize a pastry for the winner and a friend; third prize a chocolate or vanilla cupcake.
