The first round of the 2011 Chicago municipal elections are over, crowning a new mayor and a new 47th ward alderman.
The highly contested races brought 47th ward voters out more than in the rest of the city with 50.81 percent of registered voters casting their ballots. Citywide turnout was 41.6 percent.
The biggest shocker in citywide elections was right here in our neighborhood, where Ameya Pawar bested Tom O’Donnell and avoided a runoff election with 50.78 percent of the vote.
