The Welles Park Parents Association youth baseball league opens online registration for returning players today. The instructional league’s season begins April 28 and includes playoffs in late July.
The Welles Park Parents Association was founded in 1990 to replace the Chicago Park District baseball program after it was eliminated in 1989. It has become is the largest organized baseball league in Chicago with a waiting list of over 200 kids each year, according to board member David Nemeroff.
WPPA teams range from 5-6 year olds’ T-ball in the “Rookie” league to the 15-18 year olds’ Liberty League.
