Street festivals are ubiquitous this time of year. They can all seem to blur into one another. But BenFest, hosted by St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and Schools, this Friday and Saturday from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. each night in the Church’s court yard, 2215 W. Irving Park Rd., is unabashedly kid-focused and “neighborhoody”.
Yes, it has bands and stages (headliners are Dot Dot Dot, Hello Dave, which are worth seeing, and some other names you’ve probably heard of if you follow Chicago bands), but the real draw is the face painting, petting zoo, Mary Macaroni, Wiggleworms, snow cones and general opportunity to exhaust children so they’ll Go-To-Sleep-Right-Now later that night.
Last year BenFest was scheduled the same weekend as Folk & Roots Fest, which we can’t imagine helped their attendance.
Admission to BenFest on each day is $5 before 8:00 P.M. and $10 after 8:00 P.M.
