There will no shortage of holiday cheer this year, as local stores in Lincoln Square and Northcenter are doing their very best to assure you, neighborhood consumers, that shopping local is a much better experience than in big box stores or online. While most local shops held back during Black Friday, this weekend they go all out to bring you home.
It all starts off tonight with the first of Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce’s weekly Thursday Sip ‘N’ Shops, where stores on Lincoln Ave. between Sunnyside Ave. and Lawrence Ave., and on Damen Ave. and on Rockwell Ave. near the Brown Line stops will have drinks and treats for shoppers coming through. Restaurants in those areas will also be running specials. The promotion runs every Thursday in December.
Then on Saturday and Sunday the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce is hoping you’ll Shop ‘N’ Stroll down Lincoln between Montrose Ave. and Addison St. Businesses have put together a coupon book with special offers for shoppers who come by this weekend.
And then Waters Elementary School, 4540 N. Campbell Ave., is holding their annual holiday Artisan Fair on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. They’ll have baked good, poinsettia and a kids book fair. Santa will be there too.
Finally, a new group, the Traders Row Collective, what seems to be a group of shops on Lincoln Ave. between Irving Park Rd and Addison St., are hoping you’ll shop their neck of the woods during the Holiday Shop Walk on Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a host of specials and discounts.
On a less commercial vibe, on Friday afternoon, the Lincoln Square Chamber kicks off the annual Christkindl Market on Lincoln Ave and Leland Ave, with entertainment, food and kids activities under a warm tent. A much bigger event than in years past, this year the Lincoln Square Chamber hired an events company to run the more robust festival that includes a free trolley to take holiday revelers/shoppers to stores around the neighborhood.
The Northcenter Chamber is also sponsoring a Jingle Bell Breakfast this Saturday at Martyr’s, 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. complete with photos with Santa, a buffet and crafts for kids. Tickets are $10 a head.
If Christmas tree lightings are your thing, there’s a pair of them, on Friday, 6:00 p.m., at Damen Ave. and Leland St. with the Ravenswood Community Council and then again on Saturday, 4:30 p.m., Giddings Plaza with the Lincoln Square Chamber.
