On Sunday, Feb. 27, 20 chairs will be randomly placed along Ravenswood Avenue, but it won’t be to secure parking.
The chairs are part of the first-ever Ravenswood PinkWalk, a collaborative celebration from Ravenswood ArtWalk (RAW) and House Beautiful Magazine, in honor of their March The Power of Pink! issue.
Recently, House Beautiful hit the Chicago streets to photograph pink chairs from designers around the world, which range in value up to $3,000. The chairs withstood gray skies, snow and traffic for a series of pictures which can be viewed here.
During the PinkWalk on Sunday, the chairs will be brought back to the sidewalks, ready to go home with the first person who grabs them. The locations of the chairs will be tweeted as they are placed, so only those following House Beautiful on Facebook and Twitter will know where to look.
Once the location is out, it is up to followers to find that perfect pink chair around the neighborhood.
In addition to the chase for free decor, RAW will feature local artists’ interpretation of pink at four local venues, each within two blocks of one another for easy shopping. The involvement of Chicago’s artistic community has been substantial.
“We were shocked at the response,” said Laura Engel, President Emeritus of RAW. “We had to turn off our registration.”
The event, which goes from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m., will feature goody bags, giveaways, and pink treats. There will be a “Color Seminar” at 1 p.m., in addition to a reception at 4 p.m, in Architectural Artifacts, located at 4325 N. Ravenswood.
Engel is sure that there will be plenty for patrons to see throughout the afternoon.
“111 artists are busy creating pink pieces as we speak,”she said.
