Beer and cheese doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue like beer and pretzels or beer and brats, but monks have been pairing the two since the Middle Ages, and if you can’t trust monks, who can you?
Putting a modern spin on this ancient tradition, Half Acre Beer Company, 4257 N. Lincoln, is hosting a pop-up cheese shop on Saturday, Oct. 8, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Traveling all the way from Vermont, Cellars at Jasper Hill and Elmore Mountain Bread will be sampling a variety of cheeses and breads. Buy some cheese and Half Acre will sweeten the deal with a flight of four sample-sized pours.
If you’re interested in trying this at home, pairing beer and cheese, not hosting a pop-up shop, apparently you can act as snobby as your wine friends. Try out these quotes from the artisanal cheese folks:
“IPAs are liable to walk all over a more delicate cheese such as a fresh, young Loire valley chèvre.”
“A pungent washed-rind cheese could destroy the delicate, floral nature of a true German Pilsner.”
