Chicago’s got lots of places to go for comedy. It seems like sometimes, you can throw a stick in any direction and hit some sort of comedy show. And lots of it is political. After all, making jokes about politicians is kind of like making sauce out of tomatoes. It comes naturally.
And then there’s Laughing Liberally. Proudly wearing its politics on its sleeve, the group purposefully caters to a certain political persuasion. If you’re one of those people, you’ll want to be at the Black Rock, 3614 N. Damen Ave. at 8:00 p.m. next Wednesday. Led by Tim Grimes of The Accountants Of Homeland Security, the group plans a line up of a half dozen Chicago comics – and some pretty decent food and drink specials.
“We try not make shows overly political,” says Grimes. “We don’t just bash people on the right. Sometimes Obama gets a few jabs.”
Started during the 2008 election season, Laughing Liberally is part of national organization, Living Liberally that includes Drinking, Eating, Screening and Reading branches that do exactly what their names say with the purpose of, “creating communities around progressive politics.”
