Economists say any form of booze sales is recession-proof. ?A number of Center Square establishments are working hard to prove the maxim. This weekend is as good a time as any to see how our local breweries are doing.
Both Center Square microbreweries, Half Acre, 4257 N. Lincoln Ave.,??and Metropolitan, 5151 N. Ravenswood., are hosting tours this weekend – at 1pm and 3pm each and they tend to fill up pretty quick. ?Little or no money you get a snappy tour from the brewer/owners as well as a bunch of beer during the tour ($5 at Metropolitan and free at Half Acre). Half Acre tends to serve beer during tours they’re testing before sending to market, so tours are a good opportunity to see what might be coming next.
There are sign-up lists for both brewery tours – and they fill up fast, so call or check the web soon.
Metropolitan does not host weekly tours – in fact their next tour is not until mid-April, so sign up quick to sample the good stuff.
If you sign up for the tours too late – consider the weekly tasting at Lincoln Square’s Fine Wine Brokers, 4621 N. Lincoln Ave.,?from 1 to 4 pm.. Far from stuffy, the folks at FWB are?knowledgeable?and willing to recommend good wine – whether it be a $60 or $12 bottle.
