Closing Up Shop

Dear Reader,

This is the last email message you’ll receive from Center Square Journal. After close to four years of operation, I’ve decided to completely close shop. Since July we’ve been mostly an events calendar and while still over 5,000 of you read it every week, I’ve been distracted by other responsibilities and I don’t think I’m able to produce a great product. Besides, there are just so many other options available.

As I’ve said before, I’ve loved getting to know all of you and making a contribution to our community. We’ve had a great team here, many of whom have gone on to much bigger things. We must have been doing something right.

I’ve gone into great detail in other places about why operating a hyperlocal in Chicago is so difficult. Although CSJ hasn’t been operating at the same intensity it did a year ago, I don’t think the market landscape has changed very much. But, if you are looking for good local coverage, I heartily recommend DNAInfo, where one of our former editors, Patty Wetli, leads up the Lincoln Square/Albany Park coverage.

As for CSJ‘s posterity, I’ll keep the archives up for many years to come, so things will still show up in Google search.

Keep doing what you do to make ours a great community.
