A native of Hawaii, Kristl Yuen is a 2008 graduate of the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and runs her own acupuncture practice, Kwai Fah Acupuncture, 4361 N. Lincoln Ave., in a soothing and serene Northcenter studio. Specializing in stress reduction, pain management, and women’s wellness, Kristl’s gentle touch and holistic approach to health and healing is much appreciated by her many neighborhood patients. The name “Kwai Fah” come from her middle name, chosen by her grandparents following Chinese custom. Known for its medicinal properties and sweet scent, It translates to “strong little flower”, which is entirely apropos for a gal like Kristl.

1. Where is your favorite spot to relax in the neighborhood?

My favorite spot to relax in the neighborhood is the outdoor seating at Julius Meinl or in Welles Park. I usually get a chai latte and a croissant, though their regular food is amazing as well. Plus, the little cookies that come with the drinks are to die for!

2. If you could change one thing about the area, what would it be?

I wouldn’t change anything about the neighborhood…I think it’s pretty great as it is! I love that there’s a park and a library, plus all the great little shops up in Lincoln Square. I’m thrilled the Lincoln Square Farmers Market has started again, too!

3. What’s the goofiest thing you’ve seen lately in the neighborhood?

I can’t really think of anything goofy that I’ve seen lately. I do love watching the dogs walk by the front window of the office – they’re often pretty goofy and adorable! My favorite was when a dog was laying outside our office just chowing down on a bunch of sticks. When he and his owner left there was a pile of broken sticks and splinters on the sidewalk. Adorable!

4. Where is your favorite neighborhood restaurant and what is favorite dish there?

My favorite neighborhood restaurant right now is Royal Thai. I LOVE the Pad Asparagus there. When I have a little more time for lunch I’ll walk up to Gene’s Sausage Shop and get some potato salad, pretzel bread, and salami. Delicious!

5. What’s the last movie you’ve seen at the Davis?

The last movie I saw at the Davis was “Red” and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so much fun seeing Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman kicking butt.
